This Roundtable is led and sponsored by Virta.

Power Talk Jobs in the green economy

Power Talk “Jobs in the green economy: The evolution of jobs in the energy transition” – Open to attend

20/05/2019 | 13:00-13:30 | Enel stand

The electricity sector is one of the industrial areas where new technologies such as the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Robotics and Augmented Reality are clearly applicable, more so than in other sectors. As a result, work organization is evolving more rapidly than in other industrial sectors. The involvement of "intelligent machines" in the generation, transmission, distribution and consumption of electricity does not, however, marginalize the role of the worker as the integration between the operational line and the technical specialists becomes stronger. The green economy can be a major source of growth in the future employment landscape and environmental sustainability can create jobs.

In this informal talk, Mr. Giuseppe Montesano from Enel Foundation, Prof Paolo Neirotti from Politecnico of Turin and Mr. Sébastien Storme, Senior Advisor, Just Transition Centre, ITUC will discuss the transformation of work in the electricity sector and reflect upon labor policies as well as challenges and opportunities in the context of the energy transition.

Power Talk Embracing Digital Technologies

Power Talk "Embracing Digital Technologies" – Open to attend

20/05/2019 | 15:15 - 15:45 | Enel stand

This Power Talk will bring together Mr. Maher Chebbo, the Chief Officer Global Power Digital Solutions at General Electric and Mr. Ernesto Ciorra, Chief Innovability Officer of Enel who will explain and analyse the importance of digitalisation. The Power Talk will be moderated by Mr. Claudio Arcudi, Enel Global Account Lead at Accenture. Are the electric utilities ready to embrace the digital revolution? How will they do it and what will it bring to energy providers and consumers? Digital disruption is happening and greater flexibility is needed to serve customers across the full energy life cycle, from Generation to Grid. During this Power Talk the speakers will cast light on how digitalisation of utilities travels across sectors and thereby supports the surrounding ecosystem through greater environmental protection and better customer care, plants management, energy efficiency, and e-mobility solutions for goods and people among others.

Roundtable Industrial Solutions

Roundtable “Industrial Solutions: Powering Sectoral Integration” – Invitation only

21/05/2019 | 07:45 - 09:15 | Leadership room

Direct and indirect (power-to-X) electrification are expected to play a major role among the options that could address the CO₂ emissions from industry (energy efficiency, demand side measures, innovation, etc). Participants will discuss the potential of low CO₂-emitting technologies for industrial customers and the way forward to decarbonise industry. This Roundtable is led and sponsored by Uniper.

Roundtable Flexibility Markets

Roundtable “Flexibility Markets” – Invitation only

21/05/2019 | 07:45-09:15 | Press room

The power sector transition will require the coordination of multiple decentralised resources and consumption and the emergence of new business models to provide flexibility at the local level. The emergence of local flexibility markets could be one key option, benefitting both to DSOs and TSOs and also raising a number of theoretical and practical questions that will be discussed during the conference. Participants will discuss the emerging approaches towards flexibility platforms, the products being traded as well as means to ensure efficient interface with existing mechanisms and national flexibility markets. This Roundtable is hosted by FTI Consulting and Compass Lexecon.

Informal Breakfast on Consumer Centricity

Informal Breakfast on Consumer Centricity – Invitation only

21/05/2019 | 08:00 - 09:00 | A meeting room

We think that we know our competition well but we don’t. We think that we know our market well enough but we don’t. Our knowledge is so much lacking that we will probably be pushed out of the market. Sounds too bold? It has happened many times before in other industries and it can certainly happen in the energy space. Our fight for survival will not be with the good old, next door utility neighbour. It will be with newcomers that are better equipped in two areas: technology and superb knowledge of consumer behaviour. During this informal breakfast, we will dig into the latter. The talk is led by Dr. Fridrik Larsen, the CEO / Founder of CHARGE and LarseEn Energy Branding.

Power Talk Bringing Emotions to Energy

Power Talk “Bringing Emotions to Energy” – Open to attend

21/05/2019 | 11:00 - 11:30 | Enel stand

Energy companies are in transition and their role is switching from providers to enablers. Customer service which is smooth and easy yet tailored is key to maximising potential in the energy sector today. During this Power Talk the listeners are provided insights how to connect with consumers in a direct and personal way.

DSO Entity Information Session

DSO Entity Information Session – Open to attend

21/05/2019 | 13:30 - 15:30 | Press room

Undoubtedly, the electricity distribution is the electric value chain segment where most of the changes are expected to happen in the energy transition. In order to reflect the new central role of the DSOs at EU level, the recently adopted Clean Energy Package created a new European Association for DSOs, the so called “EU DSO Entity” which shall be fully set up by DSOs as of early 2021. At this information session we will discuss the challenges encountered by DSOs in the set up process. Panellists, reflecting the very wide range of DSOs in Europe, will explain clear benefits of this Entity for DSOs’ business as well as for all the stakeholders of the energy sector. In a nutshell, participants will aim at answering the following question: the EU DSO Entity, what’s in it for you?
